Ways Why Memoir Writing Heals

Have you ever been too threatened by a failure to go for something you want?

Too apprehensive to share feelings, too intimidated to stand up when you experience devastating relationships, too nervous of getting out of your shell, too worried to lose yourself again, then there are ways to change your life without even sharing it, that’s if your pain is too hard to handle and you don’t have the strength  to share to others. You are far from alone, I have discovered based on my personal experience, the vast majority of people no matter how good or happy or successful they are, we all have our inner pain and inner demons in us, getting out of it isn’t easy at all, we all pass through that.

Thinking I too have a history, the idea of writing a memoir formed slowly. A memoir necessarily asks us to explore our inner selves, and in so doing we may come upon some powerful feelings, memories, and conflicts. However, it seems clear that the process of wrestling with our truths can be freeing ultimately and helpful to our development.

The journey of writing always leads us to unexpected places if we allow the story and the journey to guide us. It means having some kind of faith in the process, and a willingness to simply write without a clear goal in the early stages. I always tell my students to place themselves into the scenes that beckon to them and let the story itself work its magic.

Writing a memoir is both a linear and a non-linear process Writing about our happy childhood allows our feelings and memory to rekindle the good times we had with our parents, even the memory of tasting ice cream for the first time, the funny moments and all the great times.  Memoir writing helps us acknowledge our weaknesses and strength when we reread what we have written in the past. It’s a specific way of giving ourselves credit that is no longer overdue. Writing memoirs eases the feeling of being sorry and helps us develop a  thought of instead of staying in the same situation, we try to turn questions into answers, and answers being acted upon. Writing memoirs will help you discover who you are and what you represent, as well as getting in touch with your storytelling nature. The process can be very therapeutic and lead to an emotional awakening, it will emphasize the creative process and strategies for fostering self-expression. It helps us relax, reflect and remember. Memoir writing can be a way of leaving a legacy for generations and imparting wisdom from real-life experiences. It can also be a tool for gaining a better understanding of one’s self. This makes you less self-centered, and it also has developmental benefits on the healing process.
